FREEDOM
by
Patricia C. Montesano
I
can recall whiskey-stained floors
Threatening
shouts and slamming doors
Screaming
sirens and flashing lights
The
smells and sounds; the moods and fights
With
fear and tears I still recall
The
sound of fists smashing the wall
Live
again dysfunction’s hell
Keep
sworn-to silence I carry well
Resent
and relive every past minute
Dwelling
on pain and wounds within it
Or
|
I
can let God as I let go
To
trust that I will blossom and grow
Put
to rest the lingering pain
Leave
behind the anger and blame
Walk
from where I need not return
Take
with me the lessons I’ve learned
Seek
out the help I need to find
Follow
the way to peace of mind
Pursue
a new and happier way
To
live my life day by day
Rely
on The Power greater than I
Determined
to laugh rather than cry
With
courage from my daily prayer
I
can breathe freedom’s fresh air
